A career in the clouds

Batemans Bay Probus Club recently held a changeover luncheon to welcome new president Jan Wright. Outgoing president Ron Magus wished Jan and the new management committee all the best for the year and thanked the 2016 committee for their support. The presidents of the neighbouring Probus clubs of Narooma and Moruya were also guests at the luncheon. 

Guest speaker Sarah Leaver entertained approximately 60 members and guests by sharing her story of the ups and downs of being a pilot instructor in the 1970s. Sarah is grateful for the wonderful mentorship and support of her father, who always encouraged her aviation career, but she recalls the uphill battles she had to fight against misogyny to gain employment as a pilot instructor. This is a situation that has, sadly, improved little over the years in many industries, including the aviation industry.
