The major event for the club every year is our Friendly Trivia Quiz morning when we invite members from other Probus clubs to join us for a morning of fun to test our knowledge. Our Wine and Cheese evening held in August every year is another popular event. We  usually have BBQs in March and October as well as morning teas, lunches and dinners at various times during the year. We also have day trips, a short trip and a long trip spread throughout the year.

Unfortunately the morning tea in January had to be cancelled due to the 3 day lockdown for the Greater Brisbane area.

We all thoroughly enjoyed having lunch in the outdoors at Morgan's at Scarborough on Thursday, February 11. The barramundi, chips and salad were delicious and those who had ice creams reported they weren't too back either. This is one of the last events Gail will be organizing as Outings and Activities Officer so a big thank you from everyone. (Check the 2021 Photo Gallery)

Our first BBQ for the year was held on Monday, March 8 at Woody Point. We were lucky that it was beautiful weather and that our Premier didn't call a sudden COVID lockdown this time. Many thanks to our BBQ chefs Roberto and Keith for cooking the sausages and onions. We did miss our usual table of shared salads though. (Check the Photo Gallery 2021)

The short trip to Fraser Island was postponed last year but it definitely happened from 23-26 March this year.  Click on Short Trip 2021 at the bottom of the Menu on the left to read all about it and see what a wonderful place Fraser Island is.

This tour was another activity that Gail organised and was cancelled last year due to COVID but was enjoyed by 34 members on Thursday, April 15. The bus left Hornets at 9am and drove around several Northside suburbs and attractions passing by the Boondall Wetlands to Nudgee Beach. We picked up our guide at the DFO and did a tour of the whole airport environs, hearing about how drastically employment had fallen since COVID - from 50,000 employees to currently 8,000. The Domestic airport was moderately busy as interstate flights were becoming busier every week but the International airport looked abandoned, with only minimal incoming flights and departures to Norfolk Island using the terminal. The tour was followed by a relaxing lunch at the Transit Tavern.  After lunch our driver took us on a short tour around the city sights and the new cruise terminal before returning to Hornets around 4pm.

The annual Friendly Trivia quiz was held on Monday, June 7. Geebung RSL was the venue where 144 members from 12 Northside Probus clubs competed for the honour of being 2021 Quiz Champions. Place getters were: 1st -Stafford, 2nd - Chapel Hill and 3rd - North Lakes. There were also 2 consolation prizes drawn from the remaining teams and one team member from every table received a Lucky Draw prize. This year was Greg Brunckhorst's last year as Convenor so a big thank you to Greg, his committee and team of helpers for all the work they have put in over the past 4 years.  As always it was a fun filled day and Greg received accolades from many mambers following the event.

Approximately 50 members enjoyed the Annual Anniversary Lunch which followed the June general meeting at Hornets. Activities officer, Margaret Edwards organised a very delicious menu selection that appealed to all attendees. Doug Harding, a founding member, cut the cake and gave a short recollection of his and Mae's time in the club. Two prospective members, Alan C and Maree L, also attended the function (and have since joined the club).

Yeppoon 8th - 13th August - CANCELLED (COVID LOCKDOWN)

Helen organised a very successful morning tea on 30th August at Pine Rivers Park, Strathpine.  About 30 members took their own tea/coffee and nibbles and enjoyed a relaxing morning sitting, chatting and enjoying their cuppas. Lots of laughter and friendship, with plenty of shade, seats and trees on a warm and sunny morning, far from the madding crowd!

On 13th September Valda organised a relaxing morning tea and 90 minute tour commentary while cruising the Brisbane River on-board the MV Neptune. Leaving from Southbank we cruised to Newstead House and back while enjoying much convivial chit chat. The weather was perfect for a day on our beautiful Brisbane River, made extra special with Valda's supply of chocolates!

To celebrate Probus Day, 44 members turned up for a delicious BBQ at Woody Point on the 18th October. Nearly everyone wore some Probus colours of blue and yellow in their attire.  Bob W went one step further attaching a Probus Day sign on the back of his shirt.  Well done, Bob.  A huge thank you to chefs Keith C & Murray P and to Chrissie C & Ngaire P for organising the day. Lucky winners of the Raffles were Gail B ($50) and Keith P ($30).  The weather was perfect and it was a very happy and enjoyable day.  Photos will be available on our new website when it is up and running in November.

On 10th November, Paula has organised a day trip, firstly to the Ginger Factory for morning tea, followed by the Eumundi Markets for 'shopping' and lunch before returning via the Coast road. Departure is from Hornets at 8.00am sharp and will return to Hornets at approx 4.00pm. Morning tea and lunch will be at own cost.  Cost is $30 pp.  Payment will be required at the October meeting.

Venue: Best Western North Lakes Hotel Conference & Function Centre.  Cost: $55 pp. More information to come. Payment will be required at the November meeting.

We encourage prospective members to join us at several outings before joining the club so they can get to know members in a relaxed atmosphere.
