                         Christmas Function – December 2020

What a wonderful way to end our Springwood Probus Christmas function having Strike A Chord entertain us.  Our club is very lucky having Gail Harvey and Lorraine Mason who both perform with this group, and Gail being the organizer of these talented performers.

All 64 who attended the Christmas Party at Fitzy’s Loganholme enjoyed their performance, with a majority of us knowing the songs they sang. A definite booking for next year.

A huge thank you to all the committee members who helped me on the day, and at one stage I felt a little lost and redundant.  With the sudden arrival of people, a few minor issues arose but fortunately were sorted out relatively easily with a big sigh of relief from me.

2020 has been a very low-key year for all of us, so it was amazing to have 62 Probians and 2 guests attend one of the better Christmas functions in recent times. As is evident in the photos taken there was certainly a lot of red clothing as well as Christmas shirts, Santa hats and jewelry.  Interesting that Merv and Margaret have matching Christmas shirts and Outback country shirts.  Although this has never been done before and with one small gift going begging, Marie and I decided that Joan Cook looked exceptional in her lovely dress and gold Rudolf ears studded with pearls.  I also liked Sue Abbott’s flashing earrings, and Sandi’s very colorful glasses, which she was having trouble seeing out of.  After all we can look both chez chic and silly at this time of the year.

It was easy to see and hear that everyone was having a pleasant time at this year’s party, participating and sharing in the Probus motto of fellowship, friendship and lots of fun. Of course, we can’t forget how enjoyable both the main and desserts were, especially the individual pavlovas, and as always there was plenty left to indulge in 2nds.  I really liked the assortment of fresh vegetables this year and can never pass up cauliflower cheese. Yummy.

Well done to all the lucky door winners and hope you enjoyed your small gift.

Now all is done and dusted for 2020, but let’s start again in 2021 with the annual Australia Day Barbie on Thursday 21 January, and as this year we were unable to have our usual Chicken and Champagne picnic I am looking forward to holding this event in June or July.

In 2021 I will still have the opportunity of planning and providing future dine outs for members, but more importantly your participation helps make any function successful as was evident at the Christmas party.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the limited dine outs this year, and hopefully 2021 will see us all back enjoying the many activities that Springwood Probus has to offers.
