Guest speakers at earlier meetings

At the October meeting Micheal Plows, one of our members, gave an interesting overview of some of his many adventures as a volunteer pilot for the army in the South African Defence Force. Over the years the aircraft he piloted changed dramatically and on occasion a forced landing in the bush raised many worries for his family before his rescue was confirmed.

At the November meeting Jeannie McAndrew, another member, spoke about a trip with her husband, Brian, to a mountainous region in the the heart of Ethiopia, 645Km from Addis Ababa, where eleven medieval monolithic churches were carved out of rock. These buildings are attibuted to King Lalibela who set out to construct in the 12th century a "New Jerusalem after Muslim conquest halted Christian pilgramages to the Holy Land in Palestine.
