Poem: Locked Down Mode
25 Aug 2020
The following poem was written by Bill, an ex-President of Robina Parks Probus Club, and submitted by another ex-President, Martin Ashton.
Bill is pictured below with wife Maggie.
Locked Down Mode
Sitting at home can’t go to the pub
I’ll pen a few words to send to our Club
Locked down with wives for endless hours
This was never in our marriage vows
The days grow longer with nothing to do
Why not have a drink or two
We miss our Probus and seeing our mates
And served tea and coffee with homemade cakes
In Lockdown we reflect on the past
And why the years have gone so fast
Happy sometimes but sometimes sad
Sometimes good and sometimes bad
The world I think was better then
We’ll never see those times again
Changing world we have all been told
You don’t understand “you are just too old”
Don’t really like the world to be
Full of plastic in the sea
Most kids today have a mobile phone
Soon they’ll want their very own drone
Accidents caused by stolen cars
Extended hours to clubs and bars
People taking drugs and getting high
They will realize one day “its Pie in the Sky”
Its not all bad news so don’t despair
There are a lot of good things for us to share
We are lucky to live in this country today
So give thanks to the people who made it that way
Looking back down memory lane
I would welcome the chance to do it again
I hope all our members are virus free
If not don’t sit too close to me.
