Larrakia history

Marrara Probus Club was honoured recently to have Richard Fejo visit and give a presentation on Larrakia history.

Richard is an elder of Larrakia and Chair of the Larrakia Nation along with being the senior elder on campus at the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, College of Medicine and Public Health, Flinders University in the NT.

Richard is a skilled speaker of international repute and a comedian; and was a hit with members.

Richard spoke of the past history of Larrakia, explaining some of the local sites that represent areas of cultural significance to the Larrakia people. He also offered a story of the cultural interaction between the Tiwi peoples and Larrakia with stories that were also told on the Tiwi Islands (although from a differing perspective).

President Ken Cohalan OAM thanked Richard for his talk and presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation.
