Euroa’s 30th Birthday Celebration

On this occasion there was a brief meeting and no Guest Speaker. Colin Stafford, President, welcomed Joy Mackrell as a newest member of the Euroa Combined Probus Club and presented her with her badge. She was sponsored by Thelma (a long-time member of Probus). Colin thanked all Probus members for working together to make this a very happy event.

Colin gave a brief history of the Club and spoke of the club’s success over its 30 years to date. He spoke of the development and inauguration of the club, reminding members and guests that Probus Clubs were chartered by Rotary clubs.

He welcomed current President of the Rotary Club of Euroa, Neil Tubb to the meeting. Neil wished Euroa Probus Club, a Happy 30th Birthday and presented a framed Gold Certificate from Probus South Pacific for our Probus 30 Years since Foundation. Colin thanked Des and Peter, Rotary members for being present.

Peter spoke of the history of this initiative and congratulated Euroa Probus on its 30 years of operation. Probus was established to meet the needs of many retired residents. At its peak, the club had a membership of around 200. Then there was a split between Euroa and Violet Town. Outings filled buses and a great variety of activities were enjoyed.

Faith presented Peter and Des from Rotary with a framed photo of them taken on the Foundation Day in 1991, for their involvement in the Charter Meeting. They were thrilled, Des made the comment “I had dark hair then”.

Faith arranged a wonderful Historical Noticeboard and had 5 Albums of photos and newspaper clippings going back to the Foundation on 27 May 1991. She said she is honoured to have been able to track down relevant history and gave a brief informative talk

During a special Morning Tea, the 30th Birthday Cake was cut by two of the original Probus Foundation members, Marian and Blue.
