Narrandera’s John O’Brien Festival

Poetry lovers will love this festival that celebrates the work of priest Monsignor Patrick Hartigan (1878-1952) who published his poetry under the nom de plume John O’Brien. He wrote such famous poems as Said Hanrahan, Tangmalangaloo and Around the Boree Log.

Since 1994, Narrandera – in the south of New South Wales – has held an annual festival in honour of the town’s beloved poet and parish priest, and it attracts large groups that love the humour and heroes of O’Brien’s works. Next year, in 2019, it marks the festival’s 25th anniversary and it will continue to celebrate the bush poets from all across Australia,

The festival is a favourite of travelling Probus groups who catch the performances each year of both original works and traditional classics.
