Gympie-Widgee 30th Birthday Celebrations

Gympe-Widgee 30th Birthday Celebrations!

On Monday 9th September 2019, Gympie-Widgee Probus Club celebrated it’s 30th birthday after being formed in latter part of 1989 & continuing on until the present date.

President, Jim Eason, welcomed all members & guests to the luncheon & in particular, the Probus Ambassador for Wide Bay, Pam Carlson. During speeches of congratulations, Pam Carlson reflected on the many achievements of the Club & the highlights that had marked the Club over the past 30 years.

She reflected on the trips & extravagazas undertaken by the Club in years past.  Pam presented the Club with a certificate acknowledging the historic occasion & congratulating the Club on its 30th birthday from Probus South Pacific, and a further certificate from the Probus Association of Queensland,

On a sombre note, President Jim read out the names of 15 members who had passed away in recent years, and had contributed so much to the Club.

The celebration was held at the historic Gunabul Homestead in Gympie, where members & guests combined with members of their sister Club, Gympie Combined Probus, to celebrate this historic occasion.  All members were served a delicious lunch whilst being entertained by local singer & entertainer, Graeme Jensen.

A birthday cake was presented to mark the event.  The cake was cut by Foundation Member, Dorothy Simon.  Dorothy, was present at the first meeting of the Club in 1989 and has remained an active member for the whole life of the Club.  Among other positions, she last served as president in 2018.  Dorothy now aged 94 years, cut the cake with the assistance of President Jim.

A great day was enjoyed by all who attended this auspicious occasion.
