Sherwood Probus' New Year Champagne Breakfast

Sherwood Probus' New Year Champagne Breakfast

Sherwood Probus Club held its traditional New Year champagne breakfast to start off the New Year’s activities on 10 January 2020.  This was an activity started on 2nd January, 2004 promoted in the Club’s newsletter “As the Club’s New Year activity, the committee have organised a breakfast, including champagne, fruit juice, sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, bread and croissants, followed by fruit, coffee and a special treat – Jack’s home grown grapes (if ripe)” to be held at the Jindalee Boat Ramp. The review in the January 2004 Newsletter – “The Champagne breakfast was a rip roaring success with 41 members attending.”

It has been much the same for the last 16 years with 30 members gathering this year at Oxley Creek Common at Sherwood (a change of venue in 2011 because it was all under cover, and luckily members had because they were there when the rains really started which ended in the disastrous 2011 Brisbane Floods) to quote “for a delicious ‘English’ breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes, baked beans and mushrooms. A wide array of fresh fruit, including mangoes, plums, rockmelon and watermelon helped to freshen up our palates. The breakfast was washed down with champagne, orange juice, followed by tea and coffee. The cooks had been hard at work since at least 5am to get everything ready for a 7.30am start. Members appreciated all the hard work that they put into this event.”

The breakfast has been one of their best activities to promote fun, friendship and fellowship.
