A visit to the historic gold mining region of Hill End

Recently members of Gledswood Hills Probus visited the historic gold mining region of Hill End in the Central West of NSW.

Members are shown photographed at the remains of The Hargraves Hotel owned for 27 years by James Dagger who is the Great Great Grandfather of one of the Clubs members “Deb Denny”. James was immortalised in the poem “Tambaroora Jim” by Henry Lawson after finding him cold & wet one evening and providing him with food & shelter until his circumstances improved. This connection to our history added meaning to their visit to the region.
