About Us

Probus clubs began in the UK in the 1960s, formed by Rotary Club members who saw a need for community based social clubs for retired individuals. In Australia the first Probus club was established in 1976 and it is believed there are now over 1,500 such clubs in Australia.

While the word Probus is an abbreviation of the words 'professional' and 'business', membership of clubs has since extended well beyond any such limitations and is nowadays open to anyone who is retired or semi-retired and seeks to maintain a social network with like-minded individuals.

As a local non-profit social group we offer a range of fun activities for retired and semi retired people in the Westernport area. Our club currently has a strong active membership of almost 90 people. We are a 'combined' club which means that we welcome men and women as members.

New members are welcome and we take pride in offering a warm atmosphere with a diverse array of activities.

Our general meeting is held on the 2nd Thursday morning of each month and is normally followed by lunch for those who wish to stay on.

Activities are the backbone to our club and members are encouraged to participate according to their interests. Some choose to join in just one or two activities while others enjoy many activities each month. Some activities occur weekly while many are monthly.

This website provides an introduction for you to learn more about us. We encourage you to contact us to discuss your interest and perhaps to arrange to come along to one or two of our regular monthly meetings or activities to gain first-hand insights into how you might enjoy becoming part of your local Probus community.
