Probus Club of Castlemaine Inc.

History

The Probus Club of Castlemaine began when Dr. Ken Leversha, a Rotary Club member, instigated discussion regarding the possible formation of a Probus Club for Castlemaine.

Momentum quickly grew for this idea, and Rotary members gave unanimous support, for a public meeting to be called for this specific purpose.

A public meeting was called for the 22nd April 1988, in order to accept a resolution from attendees, and this resulted in the official forming of the Probus Club of Castlemaine.

Applications for Foundation Membership were accepted at that meeting and Office Bearers were duly elected.

The Foundation President elected, was Probian John Graham.

The club started as a men only club and in late 2011 Club Members agreed that ladies be offered membership, and this saw ladies start joining from early 2012.

The Club continues to prosper with the emphasis on the Probus motto,

“Friendship, Fellowship, & Fun”.
