A remarkable and sadly, little known scientist, the late Dr Struan Sutherland AO, devoted more than 25 years of his life to identifying its unique toxin, and finding an anti-venom for it. Without his eventual discovery, most people bitten by a funnelweb could expect to die a rapid and agonizing death!
