Probus originated as an association of retired and semi-retired men.  The word Probus is made up from the words PROfessional and BUSiness groups.

In 1985 the concept was that Probus Clubs were for "those with professional, business and executive backgrounds and others who have had some measure of responsibility in any field of endeavour".

The Probus Club of Miranda was formed at a foundation meeting at the Miranda Businessmen's Club on 27 April 1983.  Thirteen men attended the meeting and after a resolution was made to extend the date of acceptance of foundation membership to 30 June 1983, a further eleven applications were received - totalling twenty-four foundation members.  Our Club was sponsored by Miranda Rotary. 

During the 2006 - 2007 year the Club moved from a men's club and opened membership to include women.

We became incorporated on 17 September 2008 and thereafter known as Probus Club of Miranda Inc.
