The February 2025 monthly meeting of the Ulladulla and Districts Probus Club was held on the 14th of February and the 10-minute speaker was Margaret Reeves who outlined some of the key points of club history, including the importance of social connectivity of members through the monthly BBQ/Picnic on the fourth Friday of each month. Margaret also shared her insights into the role and significance of the club to its diverse range of members, and their life journeys, through the recitation of a poem. The result was well received by all members. She has been a key officeholder for the club in several roles (see picture).
The major speaker for the meeting was Tim Hughes, who is an exercise physiologist. He provided insights into what members of his profession can do for the bodily health of both the young and old. For seniors the major health issues included arthritis, osteoporosis and vascular disease. Tony emphasized the importance of consistent participation in physical activity as a major prevention measure for most of the above conditions, as well as a means of ensuring better mental health. He noted the tendency for some to have a boom-bust cycle when trying to undertake a physical exercise program. In some cases, an individual may have gained motivation for exercise to ensure their ability to avoid being a burden on other members of the family. Club members were most interested to hear about Tony’s work and the role and services in which someone in his profession can be involved.
Some Club members will undertake a tour to Broken Hill and White Cliffs several days after the Annual General Meeting at Ulladulla Bowling Club on Friday, March 14th 2025 at 9:30 am.
