Club News: Thames Probus Club’s 30th Anniversary

Representatives from Thames Rotary, Hauraki Plains Probus & the Thames Bonanza Club joined in for the occasion which was an amazing success on the stormiest of days! Rain & strong gusts didn’t distract from the cheerfulness of the celebration.

Sydney Shepherd happily presented President Alex Shirley with a 30th anniversary certificate on behalf of P.S.P.L and shared with Pat the cutting of the lovely moist banana birthday cake, then he led us all into singing “Happy Birthday”… with great vigour.

Max Bosselmann spoke of his most satisfying Rotarian achievement in August 1990, when he had the pleasure of seeing the establishment of Probus in Thames. Alex presented certificates to Past Presidents and warmly thanked his present committee for their support, emphasizing his appreciation of their efforts in keeping the fun and friendship atmosphere with in our Club.

Esther Butwell was awarded honorary membership and Marie Hayhurst was recognized with a Certificate of appreciation as both have been loyal & helpful members for over 29 years.

Pat and Richard Fargher, Foundation Members were also acknowledged for their Probus involvement, having served on the committee in every roll and as past Presidents. They continue to put together our colourful newsletter each month, which was especially appreciated during lockdown. Thelma Chantrey presented Pat with a beautiful container of potted cyclamen and with chocolates to share with Dick. Judy Newmarch, Maureen Mathews, Pat and Alex had formed a sub-committee to present a most memorable day, with Margaret Nankivell and Thelma’s help. It was held at The Bite Café where Cass’s team created a wonderful atmosphere and provided a lovely meal. Katherine Mowbray, photographed with Judy, delighted us with her pleasing Harp music.
Another wonderfully successful day of Probus friendship.
