Long service

Moira and Trevor Jarman of Henderson Falls Combined Probus Club were recently presented with Long Service Pins by President Barbara Cantle.

On 20 February 2001 Moira and Trevor and a number of like-minded people met in the Hobby Room at the Waitakere Village.  Mr Kon Kuiper representing Waitakere Rotary was their mentor.  As a result of their discussions the first official meeting of the newly formed Henderson Falls Combined Probus Club was held on 19 March 2001. At that stage there were 18 members.  An election was held and Moira became the first Vice President and Trevor was also on the committee.

Moira and Trevor recall that because of the small membership they needed to join in with other Probus clubs for trips, which were very interesting and greatly enjoyed.  They say that the standard of speakers was high and the atmosphere was great; new members were welcomed with open arms.

In April 2002 with increasing membership there was a move to a new venue at the Fellowship Hall, Henderson Baptist Church.  In February 2004 a move was made to even larger premises; this was the Kowhai Room at the Henderson Bowling Club.

Moira and Trevor, along with Colleen Bartlett and Betty Connor, are four of the foundation members still attending our present club.

From a starting point of 18 members the Henderson Falls Combined Probus Club has grown into a large, friendly and very vibrant club with approximately 100 members.  The club celebrated 10 years of Fellowship and Friendship in March 2011.
