ORIGINAL PLAN:
As Viney's Place (coffee shop) and Harrisville Bakery are opposite in Queen Street, Harrisville , it is suggested:

** Ladies meet at Viney's Place
** Men meet at Harrisville Bakery
OR couples go together to which ever venue they prefer

Thursday 24th July - visit St Paul's Anglican Church, the Ipswich Library and lunch at Commonwealth Hotel

** 9.30am at St Paul's Anglican Church, Brisbane Street, Ipswich
Visit this heritage listed Church for a tour, short recital on the pipe organ and morning tea (supplied)

This historical church was built in 1859 in revival-gothic archeticural style.  The first pipe organ to be imported into the colony from England was installed in this church in 1860 and remains in use today.

** Ipswich Library - after visiting St Paul's Church, a visit to the Ipswich Library for a tour and presentation

This library owes its beginnings, in 1869, to two nineteenth century Ipswich benefactors - Augustine Heard (a Chinese trader) and Daniel Treadwell (a professor of Applied Sciences at Harvard College).

This free library was privately run until 1974 when the Ipswich City Council took over responsibility.  It continues today as a free library and housed in two new buildings in the heart of the city - the Adult Library and the dedicated, vibrant Children's Library.

** 12 noon at Commonwealth Hotel for lunch
Opening its doors in 1910 this hotel quickly became a central hub for both locals and and travellers in Ipswich.  It was built opposite the Railway Station, a convenient stop over for Brisbane travellers after their 90 minute steam train ride.

In 1914 the old storage area behind the building was transformed into an electric light plant and a mineral water manufacturing plant.

The Department Store, T.C.Beirne & Co, opened in Ipswich in 1893 and in 1902 built new premises on the corner of Nicholas and Union Street, which, by 1910 was next to the newly built Commoonwealth Hotel.

In 2014 the Ipswich City Council bought the business to preserve and renovate it.  The building was de-constructed, stored and re-constructed, reopening in 2024 offering traditional charm with modern facilities.  The pub's heritage-listed status reflects its architectural significance and contribution to the town's character.
