Welcome to Kaleen Probus Club Inc

The Kaleen Probus Club started in March 2019 with the aim to promote the Probus Ethos of fellowship, friendship and fun through regular gatherings for semi retired and retired people in Kaleen and the surroundings suburbs in Belconnen, Gungahlin, and North Canberra. Meeting new people, making new friends and discovering new interests are some of the advantages of joining our club. We are non-political and non-sectarian and do not raise funds for charity. We have a diverse range of members aged between 57 and 85 years of age.

Joining our club

Membership is open to both men and women. To give you a good sense of what to expect when you join our club you are welcome to attend a total of three of our club meetings and/or activities as a visitor before being required to join.

There is a one-off joining fee of $30 and annual membership fees are set each year at the March Annual General Meeting. The annual fee covers such things as a capitation fee to our national body, Probus South Pacific Limited, insurance coverage during club activities and outings, and copies of the bi‑monthly Probus Active Retirees e-magazine. Annual membership fees are payable in April however if you join part way through the year the membership fee is pro-rated. Membership for 2020 was discounted due to the interruption of club activities by COVID-19.

All members receive an induction pack which contains a name badge, Membership Card, Medical Card and information about the Probus Travel insurance and member benefits. Members are encouraged to wear their name badge at all meetings and club activities/outings, and to complete the Medical Card and carry it in their wallet at all times.

Our meetings

We meet at 10:30am on the second Thursday of each month at The Clubhouse Kaleen, 16 Georgina Crescent, Kaleen. Once general business is finished there is time to enjoy catching up with other members at morning tea before listening to our guest speaker.

Special Events

Each year Club members celebrate the club’s birthday in March and a special luncheon is held for Christmas in place of the December meeting.

Outings and activities

Our club holds several regular activities and organises various excursions and outings for members, ranging from self-drive/car sharing trips to local attractions and day trips to surrounding regions. In our first 6 months we went on day trips to Junee and the Southern Highlands where members visited a number of local attractions.

When COVID-19 hit in 2020 many of our plans to attend more shows in Canberra and a musical in Sydney had to fall by the wayside.   However, now that restrictions have eased in the ACT, members are enjoying monthly lunches, attending local shows and plays and our popular weekly boardgames & cards afternoons.  New regular outings/activities started in 2021 include camping trips, geocaching / a good walk and Smart Arts Classes.

We anticipate that further groups will be formed as our membership grows.

Members and visitors attending outings/activities are asked to complete a Registration Form for Outings and/or Tours that includes details for an emergency contact. Members are also encouraged to complete and carry the Probus Medical Card in their wallet.

Other activities

We currently have a Games and Cards group which meets every Monday at the Kaleen Community Hall. Four outings to concerts were attended by members during 2019 and early 2020 with more planned for 2021 subject to COVID restrictions. Our Dining Around Town group commenced in July 2020 in line with COVID-safety restrictions and has been well attended by members.  We anticipate that further groups will be formed as our membership grows.
