The club celebrated it's 30th Anniversary in December 2021 with a combined Celebration and Christmas lunch. 55 members and guests enjoyed the event. Good food, good friends and laughter made for a happy time. Two local Probus Ambassadors joined us. Here they are with President David

Ambassadors

Our members meet each month for lunch and there is always an interesting speaker. This is a time to meet and greet old friends and new friends. It is always well attended and everyone leaves the meeting in good spirits.

We have regular activities organised by committee members and some other club members. Unfortunately some have had to be cancelled because of Covid.

There is a small group who meet on the second Wednesday of each month to go to a local bijoux cinema to get a Sneak Peek of an upcoming movie. This year so far, we have seen "Women Talking" - a group of women in an isolated Memonite Community meet to discuss their treatment by the men of the community, and to determine what to do about it. An interesting look into different lifestyle.  The in March we saw "Living"  starring Bill Nighy as a long term civil servant in the 1950s. Overwhelmed at work and lonely at home, his life takes a heartbreaking turn when a medical diagnosis tells him his time is short.Pondering on how to use the remaining years,  searches for meaning until a simple revelation gives him a purpose to create a legacy for the next generation.. This is a casual arrangement. Members just turn up and enjoy (or otherwise) the movie.

There are regular group outings to places of interest in and around Wellington. This is a recent outing to the Synagogue in Wellington, arranged by one of our members.

A Theatre Group is active, although somewhat held up by Covid. At the end of 2021, 32 members attended a performance of New Zealand playwright Roger Hall's Winding Up. Mary Brown is the organiser of this group.

An active and busy Walking Group meets to walk near and far each month. The only thing that stops them is Wellington's Weather. The group is headed by the longest serving member of our club, Heather Montgomery.  Heather is always keen to welcome new members.  Please contact ur club secretary for details - [email protected]

We have a Ploughman's Lunch each month. This is held on the first Thursday in members' homes and everybody takes something to add to the lunch - rather like a pot luck lunch. Somehow, without any planning ,we rarely get the same thing from two members.

Haymakers' Rest is another group that meets on the third Tuesday of each onth at a members home.  The rules are the same as for Ploughman's Lunch.  Everybody brings something to share for lunch and what isn't eaten is taken home.

Lunch Group meets on the third Wednesday of the month, trying different restaurants and cafes around our suburb and further afield.  This group is Headed by Margaret Ryan.  If you are interested. in joining, please contact - [email protected].

The Book Club meets immediately following our Club meetings on the second Monday of each month. The meetings take place in members' homes and lively chat on books read is enjoyed by all.
