PROBUS Club of Raumati (Inc).

Club History.

On the 30th of June, 1995 a meeting was called by the Rotary Club of Kapiti for anyone interested in forming a new PROBUS club to meet at the Scots Hall, Weka Park, Raumati. 85 persons attended. A steering committee was appointed and three preparitory meetings were held before the PROBUS Club of Raumati was launched on Friday 25th of August, 1995, with the presentation of the club's Certificate of Accreditation, by Chris Horrocks, representing PROBUS Centre South Pacific and District 9940. A Presidential Chain was presented by the President of the Rotary Club of Kapiti, Mr Bill Morrison to the newly elected President of the PROBUS Club of Raumati, Mr. Colin Watkinson. President Joan McKay, of the Kapiti Womens PROBUS Club presented a Visitors Book and President Keith Mitchell of the PROBUS Club of Kapiti presented a PROBUS Tablecloth. Mike Olsen of Pak 'n Save, Paraparaumu presented a Gong and Gavel whilst President Colin presented a table Lectern and all of the committee members were presented with their badges of office. His Worship the Mayor of Kapiti, Brett Ambler,congratulated the club on its formation and extended his best wishes for the future. Gordon Roatz, who introduced PROBUS to the Kapiti Coast some 21 years ago, gave an insight into how the PROBUS movement came about and how it has grown to 1700 Clubs with 132,000 members. (1995 figures).

With a membership of 176 Foundation Members, the following were elected as the very first committee:

President -  Colin Watkinson.

Vice President - Noel Burn.

Secretary - Bev Herbert.

Treasurer -  Rosemary Lloyd.

Committee - Alyth Bradey, Jack Futter, Iris Garside, Colleen Hambleton, Bob Herbert, George Holt and Ian Walker (Rotary Liaison).
