We are a lively club of retired and semi-retired men from a variety of backgrounds. We enjoy lunch, ongoing friendships, conversation, interesting speakers, and some humour. Some also meet to play snooker, others play golf. And we follow the exploits of travelling members, and keep caring contact with those who are less active.

Our partners join us twice a year for the President’s Lunch and Christmas Dinner, and for regular outings to film or to other attractions within reach by car, plus lunch.

Members meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month for the formal meeting, coffee and bar time, a guest speaker and lunch, all at an attractive private venue,  the Toorak Services Club at 72 Clendon Road, Toorak.

The Club Committee sees the selection of experienced guest speakers with real knowledge and insight as essential to the success of our monthly meetings. They are also mindful of ensuring that the topics are of broad interest, enjoyment and relevance to the membership. Recent speakers have included:

  • Rory Douglas, and his dog: Guide Dogs Victoria
  • David Benjamin: The history of the House of Benjamin and the jewellery business
  • Alison Wright: RACV, Road Safety for Seniors
  • Brian Williams: Consumer Affairs, Scams and Identity Theft
  • Richard Breckon: Australia Post, Stamp Collecting- Some notable philatelists
  • Dr Hermione Parsons: Deakin Univerity, Urban planning and the redevelopment of the Port of Melbourne
  • Alun Kenwood: Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Gondoliers"
  • Ted Cavey (Author): Australia's Glorious Era

An expanded executive committee of about fifteen works to keep all this happening smoothly.  They meet on the second Tuesday of the month, and stay for  lunch.  We encourage new members to join in early to spread the load and become experienced members quickly.  The Presidency and most other positions shuffle annually, so all members contribute to the energy and activities of our club.

Naturally, we all share in the travel, insurance and other membership benefits of being  part of Probus in the South Pacific region.
