Our next activity w $2.50 Club Outing: Wendy Whitely’s Secret Garden
Wednesday 11th February Leader: Sarnie Hay
One of the most spectacular public gardens in Sydney, Wendy’s Secret Garden has been continuously created like a giant living painting since 1992, by Wendy Whiteley, artist in her own right, and wife and muse of Australia's eminent artist, the late Brett Whiteley.
Members with limited mobility may only access the uppermost sections of the garden via Clark Park. A series of ramps have been added within the garden to allow visitors to navigate the garden’s levels with greater ease and gain access to the garden’s lower level. 6
Getting There:
Take the 230 bus from Mosman to Lavender Street, opposite Cliff Street stop. We will meet at the corner of Lavender Street and Harbourview Crescent at 10:30 am. Those who need a coffee can get a takeaway. We will then make our way to Clark Park to contemplate the amazing view of the Bridge and Harbour. The garden is a short walk through the Park. You can sit under the giant fig and enjoy Wendy’s garden or wander down to the lower level.
Lunch:
For lunch we can revisit a true bistro classic at LOULOU: the Sandwich Américain (those who went on the Australia Square trip will remember it fondly). You can enjoy it with your choice of house wine, beer, or soft drink – all for just $25. However, if you prefer you can order from the menu. There is also a PETIT LOULOU: $15 Lunch. You may like to indulge in a fresh salmon bowl or Mexicano bowl at SolBowl.
For membership enquiries, the Club can be contacted by emailing the Membership Secretary, Sarnie Hay at: [email protected]
Our Mosman Probus Club is a great meeting place for retired (or semi-retired) men and women. It is the local social club for those looking for new activities and interests, for keeping both mind and body healthy and active. Join us to meet with like-minded people for fun and friendship.
We meet every fourth Wednesday of the month (except December) at 10:30am to 12:30pm in the Grand Hall of the Mosman Art Gallery, 1 Art Gallery Way, Mosman. Afterwards, members and visitors enjoy lunch and socialising at a local hotel. The Club recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Our monthly meetings include talks by guest speakers on a range of interesting subjects. Regular social activities include lazy lunches, theatre and cinema performances, day trips and tours, walks and overseas trips (when possible).
Our organising committees cater for all interests:
In 2025/26 so far, Club members have enjoyed speakers on diverse topics, including the Director of the Mosman Art Gallery discussing the artists’ camp at Curlew Cove, and Ausgrid’s Partnership Manager explaining evolving sources of power and changes in demand—such as the rise of electric vehicles.
Club activities have featured a Gourmet Getaway to Bellingen and a Blue Mountains sojourn with high tea at the Hydro Majestic. Outings have included visits to State Parliament House and a tour of Lucas Heights. Theatre parties have been organised for productions of “Cats” at the Theatre Royal and “Carousel” at the Glen Street Theatre, presented by artists from the Sydney Opera House.
Lunches have been enjoyed at the Little Snail French restaurant and Refettorio, the OzHarvest eatery amongst many.
In addition, the $2.50 Club has been launched, with trips to destinations such as Woy Woy and Australia Square, making use of public transport and combining the excursions with delicious lunches.
An afternoon Theatre Group now meets at the Cremorne Orpheum Cinema on the first Monday of each month, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.
Visitors are very welcome at our monthly meetings.
The Club would like to record our appreciation to Mosman Council for the $2,000 Grant that has been used purchase a computer to assist the club to modernise and operate more efficiently.
Probus is non-political, non-sectarian and does no fundraising.
