Coorong Discovery Cruise on 18th October 2016
Payneham Probus Club members and friends enjoyed a leisurely cruise into the Coorong with of Austwide Tours and Coorong Discovery Cruises. Many braved the somewhat chilly and breezy weather on deck to take in the breathtaking views of frollicking seals, feeding birds of many varieties (including patrols of pelicans) and of course the scenery. Those who preferred the comfort of the ship's lounge could do likewise from the comfort of their seats.
At the landing, the bravest of us ventured ashore on a guided tour during which Lachlan described some of the early history of the Coorong and introduced us to a number of native plants used by indigenous Australians as a food source. Approaching rain then persuaded us to return to the boat rather than continue to the ocean beach.
We ventured a little further upstream before coming about to head for home - the weather did not disappoint - with strong winds and heavy rain squalls most of the way back. As we disembarked at Goolwa Wharf, the sun finally showed it's face.
