THE HAPPIEST CLUB ON THE COAST
Bulletin No 460-October 2023
Presidents Report for October 2023 Robin Hearder.
I hope everyone was able to enjoy the spring sunshine and school holidays with their families. We send our best wishes to Maureen Edwards for a speedy recovery after her recent accident and to the Massey family as Pat recovers from her fall and Ron continues to have shoulder problems. Our 21 bowlers and their supporters had an enjoyable day on the 9th October against Glengara Village but finished second. Many thanks to Rod Greenaway for saving his personal bowling prizes and donating them as raffle prizes and not using our Club financial reserve from the Committee. Another social group of 22 members is looking forward to the 3 day visit to Bowral and surrounds and thanks to Helen and Stan Taylor for organising. We now have 86 Ordinary members and 5 Life members and are approaching pre-pandemic levels and will welcome Hilton Peters as a new member at our next meeting.
The Christmas Lunch is being held on Tuesday 5th December at Mingara Recreation Club and we would like your money of $40 per member and $60 for visitors paid into our Westpac Bank Account
(see Treasurer’s report for details) or at October meeting. Thanks again to Paul Denny of Raine & Horne, Killarney Vale for his sponsorship of $10 per member and to the sub-Committee of Helen Taylor, Jenny Blair and Diana Cooney working on the organisation and Raffle prizes. Our next outing at Toowoon Bay Park is on 6th November for a Chicken & Champagne lunch with Melbourne Cup sweeps, so please pay $15 per member at our next October meeting or online if not already paid.
Our Guest Speaker in October will be fellow Probian and Historian, Dick Whitaker on “The Everleigh Payroll Robbery” which was the first committed with a getaway car!

SOCIAL REPORT. Helen Taylor
Thank you so much to all who attended our Trip to Bowral. Everyone truly did enjoy themselves despite the unfortunate downpour and hail that did disrupt our Monday evening meal. It was enlightening to see Seniors move so fast!
Congratulations to team Coasties who won a third prize in Triva at the Royal Hotel in Bowral. A bottle of local red wine! This has been kindly donated along with the box chocolates won by Robyn Greenaway in the Word Competition to our raffles. An amazing narrative was given by Kathryn of Sutton Forest Farm. If you like horses then a visit there is worthwhile. Courthouse Berrima was informative and we are so lucky we don’t live in those times! A definite deterrent to any offenders today.
Briars Inn dinner was amazing and I must thank everyone for the tribute they gave me by singing “You are My Sunshine”. Thank you Wendy. My flowers are beautiful and much appreciated. Thank you also to Lynne for helping prepare our first night tea.

Presidents Report for June 2023 Robin Hearder.
I hope everyone is enjoying the sunny days as we creep into winter and colder evenings and that those members and friends who have recently caught Covid or are/have been in hospital are recovering well.
We also welcome back several members who have been interstate or overseas and look forward to hearing their stories. Congratulations to the Central Coast Mariners on winning the A-League Grand Final Championship 6-1!
Membership of our Club is going well with 74 Financial members and 6 Life Members. This includes 2 new members to induct at our next meeting. Barry Quayle and Jan Estens. I am not sure what is happening about any possibilities from the former Toowoon Bay Probus members. They are welcome to join us. However, we may have to change some seating arrangements in General meetings, so that they are not sitting on their own.
Good Guest Speakers are being selected by Jenny Blair so that we are keeping good General meeting attendances and this month we have Rafaele Joudry on “Waking up your mind and Vitality using Sound Therapy”. Thanks to Jenny Blair for sending out an extra newsletter last month as short notice was given on ticketing deadlines before our next General Meeting of the Wyong Race Day on 4th July and 9-5 Musical at Laycock Theatre on 5th August and several members have taken up the opportunities. This month another group has gone to Morning Melodies. “The Australian Navy Band” on 14th June and our Lunch & Movie (The Bank of Dave) at Avoca Beach Theatre on Wednesday 21st June which has drawn a good attendance. We again have some boxed Probus biro pens as Raffle prizes and thanks to Irene Branigan for standing in for Mary Anne Greck selling raffle tickets at our last meeting.
Our sponsor club was the Rotary Club of The Entrance and it has advised it is holding a Charity Fundraiser on Friday 18th August in aid of The Aspect School, Terrigal for autistic students. The Fundraiser is “ The Perfect Murder” based on a novel by Jeffrey Archer at the Woy Woy Little Theatre at 7pm. Tickets are $45.00 but include complimentary finger food and a glass of bubbles before the show. There is a possibility of a private bus. Expressions of interest at June Meeting.
