Lyn Brinson is our new Life Member and Welfare representative, in fact this is her 14th year on a Probus Committee!

When Lyn retired from her position as Office Manager after 30 years with a building consultancy company, she needed activities to fill in her time.  Big sister Coralie suggested joining Manly District Probus Club which she did in January 1999.

In those days couples only were invited to join but fortunately her husband Ray embraced Probus also and they have remained active members ever since.

Two months after she joined, Lyn was appointed Club Secretary and has held an impressive array of Committee responsibilities since, these including first Vice President then President (twice holding this office), Speaker Coordinator, Membership contact, and 6 years as Welfare person.

Lyn and Ray have met wonderful people over the years, made lifelong friends and thoroughly enjoyed club activities including lunches and weekends and holidays away: interesting speakers over the years have added enjoyment to Club meetings.

Lyn’s love of theatre and dancing – line dancing in more recent years – stems from her singing and dancing days as the younger of The Goswell Sisters:  Lyn was in in fact only 3 when she started performing with her sister Coralie, sometimes in a concert group but often the two girls performed on their own.  School holidays were spent on stage – Lyn at times standing on a box as she was so small – singing and dancing for hospital patients, in Lodge halls and frequently for wayward girls in training centres and hardened criminals in gaols!  No wonder Lyn is unfazed by public speaking!

Lyn’s sometimes naughty sense of humour is contagious, and her warm and friendly manner has welcomed many new members to Probus and cheered many who have been ill over the years.  We are still waiting however for her to stand on a box and start singing!
