Mrs Ann Kennish
President's Post 2025 - 2026
August 2025
My after-dark visit to the King’s Park illuminations in July was a trip into wonderland. Congratulations must go to the inspired creators of this light show. My next amazing adventure was with the Probus group outing to the Chinese Terracotta Warriors. An impressive display of fierce and fragile artifacts at the Perth Museum.
I hope you all had fun and found a treasure or two at the Market Day event on 14th July. Thanks to all members who contributed in cash or kind, and to those who helped set-up and clear away tables.
The final event for July was a trip to the Mandurah Art Centre to hear music created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and other nostalgic songs. Some members enjoyed lunch in Mandurah prior to the show. It was a long day with travel and the show and the trip home was after dark.
Your committee works together to plan events they feel members will be interested in. Please put your name on the various event lists to help with bookings and catering. Cold and windy weather only enhances the warmth of friendship when attending the Probus special groups. Information: www.probusvicpark.com

July 2025
Probus core values are fun, friendship and fellowship. At general meetings we all enjoy fellowship and catching up with members we haven’t seen for a month. However, the small groups that focus on specific activities is where there is time and opportunity to get to know someone and to nurture friendships. Even the committee is a small group with the specific interest of creating time and space for shared member good times, while taking care of business.
The Outings and Munchers Lunch groups continue to be well attended. 17 members went on the trip to Swan Valley and enjoyed High Tea at the Lavender Boutique Bistro. I joined fellow Munchers at the Dux café and enjoyed the happy camaraderie and a delicious meal. Footsloggers are braving the chilly morning starts and gusty winds, followed by warm and animated chats over coffee.
The Craft, books, and cards’ groups have much to offer in creative fun, social interaction and potential friendships. If you are curious about what any of the groups do, just contact the convenor and go to the next get together. Information is on the website www.probusvicpark.com
Yours in Probus – Ann Kennish, President

June 2025
It was a full Agenda at the General Meeting on 21st May with the induction of Julie van Noord and the appointment of a new Secretary following the resignation of Allan Hough. The Treasurer Ian, and I gave a brief overview of the PAWA workshop we attended on 16th May. It helped us with clarifying the roles of PAWA and PSPL as well as sharing management matters with Committee Members from other Clubs.
There was a slight pause in the meeting as members considered volunteering for the position of Secretary. It was agreed by all that the position be divided into two parts. Ron Stephenson accepted the role of Minute Secretary, and Gaye Sweeney accepted the role of General Secretary. We all thank them for their commitment.
The committee meeting on the 11th June reviewed the Diary plans and we hope members will enjoy the selected Outings. The Pines and the Pagoda were not available for Club dates. Help is offered to members who have not experienced the convenience of train travel. Try train to the Museum and Mandurah trips, or car pool if preferred.
Now for the fun times. I have never played golf before, so playing mini golf at Collier Park Golf Course on 28th May was an education, albeit full of hits and misses and fun and laughter. The 16 members who attended played to their strengths and a few of them had holes in 1. (not me!)

May 2025
There was a fine roll up of members for the General Meeting at the Harold Rossiter Reserve Meeting Rooms on the 16th April. Friendly expectation helped me as a new President to chair the meeting. A Powerpoint slide show of the Agenda was useful; it combined visual slide content with the microphone presentation. It was a lengthy meeting with good participation by members to develop a flexible plan for activities/outings during 2025.
The unexpected resignation by Secretary Allan Hough for personal reasons was accepted at the committee meeting on 14th May. The committee encourages him to continue with his membership and to enjoy the friendships he has made at Probus. Allan had been the only nomination for the position of Secretary at the AGM. The role of Secretary is essential to the operation of the Probus Club. The position will be open to volunteers at the General Meeting on 21st May. A new Secretary will be welcomed and strongly supported by the current committee.
Annual General Meeting ....
The 19th March was the culmination of much preparation behind the scenes for the Annual General Meeting. I thank all those who willingly signed their nomination form to commit to being an Office Bearer, or providing leadership in the many other roles at the Club, during 2025-2026. As President I plan to highlight the core values of Probus.
It was my pleasure to welcome the new committee on the 9th April. It was a lengthy and productive meeting. The new committee members dealt with the regular agenda matters and enthusiastically started planning activities. As there had been no nomination for Outings Officer, the committee proceeded to “Plan B”. A wide range of ideas and suggestion were discussed for activities and a short list was prepared considering member costs and personal capacity. I’ll present details at the next General Meeting. Following the meeting the designated Office Bearers proceeded to the Westpac bank to change signatories.
