Our September visit saw eighteen members of our club car pool to The Beekeeper’s Emporium and Inn for a social get together and to have lunch .
On arrival we were met by Jon one of the owners who escorted to our very long table where we made our lunch selections from a menu of various options; something for everyone ! Lunch arrived promptly and was delicious . After lunch Jon’s mother Vicki gave a talk about the inn and beekeeping .
Originally a Cobb &Co stop for changing horses , it later changed hands several times and twenty years ago was purchased by the current owners and is a family owned and operated business .
Commercial bee keeping is one of the major industries with over 10,000 hives which are agisted all over NSW . Due to the invasion of the Varroa mite into Australia there are very strict government rules around beekeeping practises , as a major invasion would devastate the bee industry and have a major impact on agriculture .
Other industries operated by the family include honey extraction , beer and mead brewing (1859 Brewing Company) wood working , and at the rear of the cafe there is a reception centre for holding functions . The farm shop was a big attraction for our members who found special treats to take home .
A wonderful day enjoyed by everyone . Written by Marie Billington.
