Brett Whiteley Exhibition at Orange Regional Art Gallery
Today a group of 14 Probus ladies visited the Brett Whiteley Exhibition at the Orange Regional Art Gallery. On our arrival in Orange we had a relaxing morning tea indulging in some sweet treats.
We met Cecille our guide who walked us through some of Brett Whiteley’s paintings and drawings, explaining the techniques and colours he used. We also had free time to explore more of his paintings, drawings, sculptures and pottery at our own leisure. We had the opportunity to read a letter Brett Whiteley wrote to his mother who lived in England, describing his stay and the landscape around the Oberon area. Sadly, this personal letter never reached his mother as it had never been posted. We had the chance to peruse his personal record collection, which included records by INXS, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Dire Straits and many more. What great taste in music!
With all this information our tummies were rumbling and so we then headed to the Ophir Hotel for lunch. After choosing our meal from the extensive menu it was time to chat and eat.
The day ended with more appreciation about a great Australian artist, whose legacy will continue into the future. As an added bonus we had a beautiful sunny day in Orange.
