What a delightful morning 20 of us spent at Sisters of St Joseph convent, Perthville on Friday 23rd August. After being warmly welcomed by two of the Sisters we were treated to a delicious Devonshire morning tea served in beautiful bone china teacups in a dining room with tables decorated with spring flowers.
We then divided into two groups to visit a couple of the small rooms in the original building. One was the founders’ room where a magnificent portrait of Mary MacKillop and Julian Tenison Woods, the founders, painted by local artist, Reg Campbell, is prominently displayed. The other was the well-presented museum where the archivist explained a lot of what the museum contains. A stroll to the cemetery, beautifully maintained with a serene outlook across the valley, was followed by a visit to the music and ministry rooms. Our tour concluded in the chapel where we felt embraced by a sense of peace. We were encouraged to visit the app obtainable on the Bathurst Information Centre website, Bathurst, Step Beyond to learn more.
A big thank you goes to Pauline Harvey for organising such a wonderful outing.
