ROMEOS - Retired Old Men Enjoying Ourselves  meets on the 2nd Thursday of months February to November. Next meeting: Thursday 11th September 2025, 10.00 a.m.  meet at the door of The Museum of Lands, Mapping and Surveying, 317 Edward Street, Brisbane - above Central Railway Station. Entry is free. Tour booked for 10+.  Lunch or coffee after at The Grand Central Hotel.   Contact:  Lyndley Northcott.

September 2025

Thursday, 18th September:   Bus trip to North Stradbroke Island.  Check-in at 7.20 a.m. for 7.45 departure from Gaythorne Bowls Club, 8.00 a.m. from Everton Park Bowls Club.  The bus will not wait as it must be on the car ferry that crosses Moreton Bay Marine National Park to Dunwich and then does the scenic tour to Point Lookout and Cylinder Bay. Spend time at Gorges Boardwalk where the clear waters make it easy to spot marine life including turtles, dolphins and manta ray.  And it it still whale watching season!  After lunch, visit the Stradbroke Island Historical Museum.  Cost is $120.00 (30 - 40 passengers) or $116.00 (41 -49 passengers).  This includes morning tea, lunch, ferry and touring. October 2025

Thursday, 9th October: 10.00 a.m. QIMR Berghofer Group Tour _ Medical Research Institute, Herston.  Join the free tour of this world-leading medical research institute that seeks to discover and deliver better treatments and diagnoses for some of the world's deadliest diseases. Morning tea included. Maximum group - 20.  Duration 10.00 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. Wear closed in shoes.  No wheelie walkers allowed in the laboratories.  Meeting point is Reception at 300 Herston Road, Herston.  Bookings close Thursday, 2nd October to enable names to be provided to the Security Team at QIMR.  Information on paid parking and public transport is available at Activities desk.  Tour fully booked.

Thursday, 23rd October:  Joint Probus Month Celebration, 10.30 a.m to 2.30 p.m. at Broncos Club, 98 Fulcher Road, Red Hill.  Ten Probus Clubs from Metro North have been invited to this venue to participate in a program hosted by Donna Lynch.  More details later.

Sunday 26th October:  Growl Theatre - "The Foreigner" by Lary Shue.  Shy Englishman Charlie Baker arrives at a rural fishing lodge in Georgia looking for peace and quiet.  To avoid awkward conversations, his friend, "Froggy", claims Charlie does not speak a word of English.  This is a fast-paced comedy full of laughter, heart and the hilarious consequences of pretending to be someone you're not.  Ticket is $15.00.  Book and pay on or before 2nd October.  Indicate if you are attending lunch at the Crown Hotel when booking.  Lead: Judy Catts

November 2025

Thursday, 20th November:  Sunshine Coast Hinterland Day Trip.  Board train, 7.03 a.m at Roma Street Station for Beerwah Station, then board coach to Mary Cairncross Park for morning tea. On to Maleny for some free time wandering, then on to "The Barn" at Flaxton for lunch. Time permitting, there will be a brief stop at Montville, then back to Beerwah to catch the 3.41 p.m. train to Brisbane, arriving Roma Street at 5.03 p.m. Meals are at own cost and bus hire is  $20.00 to $40.00 per person depending on numbers.  Lead: Jeanette Mills
